Agritourism – as a rapidly growing tour industry segment, has a lot of fun in it and covers a wide area of entertaining activities as – fruit picking, wine tasting, making traditional dishes and etc. Due to its flexibility this segment of tor industry is popular among the tourists of all ages.
Armenia has to offer a wide range of agritourism activities which may vary from taste to taste, from season to season and from place to place. But one common thing is that tourists get fantastic opportunity to enjoy the kind of rest they have desired. People want to be aware what they eat, how is the food grown or processed that eat their children and parents. Families are fond of agritourism activities as those help to enjoy the time spent together, to value simple thing in life and educate children to enjoy the results of joint work.
Armenian families are hospitable; they love and honor their guests. There is even an ancient Armenian proverb “Guest is sent by the God” which expresses the attitude and culture how Armenian people receive and host their guests.
From Yerevan, we head to the Syunik Region to reach the village. After a long ride tourist enjoy a meal in a host family. After they take walk in the particular village and surroundings. In the evening around 7 o’clock the herd of sheep and cows come home and tourists have chance to see the milking process.
Breakfast with host family. Tourists are given a chance to take part in the process of producing cheese, sour cream and matsun (Armenian yogurt). Picnic lunch in the garden of host family. Picking seasonal fruits, collecting the day harvest can be a fun for children. Tourists participate in vodka making process. In the evening horse and donkey riding and a pleasant tour around the village.
After a breakfast tourists visit potter, who shows them making different figures. Tourists can also take part in this nice process of creating art pieces. Beekeeping is a very popular agricultural direction in Armenia. Tourists take a tour to get to know how farmers get honey, sometimes if they are lucky they can take part or watch honey spinning process.
